The International Cooperation and European Affairs Service is actively involved in Slovenia's accession to the European Union in the area of social security and employment. It implements PHARE programmes in the area of employment and social affairs, and cooperates with the Government Service for European Affairs, other ministries and the European Commission. The sector prepares international agreements on social security and other bilateral acts.

It is also responsible for bilateral cooperation with the competent ministries of other countries. It also cooperates with international organisations and associations, such as the Council of Europe, the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations Organisation.
