Prevention of illegal work and employment

In 1997, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Programme for detecting and preventing illegal work and employment. Within this framework, relevant legislative bases were adopted and numerous other activities conducted by the Ministry. More stringent monitoring activities concerning illegal work and employment are carried out within the framework of joint actions aiming at detecting and preventing illegal work and employment.

The actions are steered by the Government Commission for detecting and preventing illegal work and employment, headed by a representative of the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs and composed of the representatives of the Ministry of Finance, of the Interior, of Justice and of the Economy, Labour Inspectorate, Market Inspectorate, Transport Inspectorate, Inspectorate for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fisheries, Inspectorate for the Environment and Spatial Planning, Health Inspectorate and Inspectorate for Education and Sport, Tax and Customs Administration and the Uniformed Police Directorate. These activities are not meant to replace regular inspections; they rather represent additional joint inspections in which the Labour and Market Inspection, Tax Administration, Police and other Inspectorates co-operate.

The Labour Inspectorate of the RS has set up an automated telephone answering device to serve all who notice potential illegal employment practices and want to denounce them. The telephone number is: 01 436 14 11.
