The Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs grants the status of society in public interest in the area of social care on the basis of the Societies Act.
On the proposal of a three-member commission for ascertaining the conditions for obtaining the status of society in public interest in the area of social care, the Ministry grants or withdraws the status of society in public interest in the area of social care by issuing a decision.
A society is granted the status of society in public interest in the area of social care when the following requirements are met:
- its founding members and members are not legal entities governed by public law
- it is engaged in activity in public interest, which is defined in its basic instrument
- it is registered and has been operating for at least two years prior to the submission of application for obtaining the status
- in the previous two years, its funds were mainly used for carrying out this activity and the programmes, projects or other activities for attaining the purpose and objectives in public interest were carried out regularly
- it has its future action programmes prepared
- it can show significant results of its activities.
A society in public interest must submit to the competent ministry the report on the work and the annual report for a preceding year; certain societies must also submit auditor’s report.
