Minister's firm NO to Violence

Minister of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Anja Kopač Mrak, Ph. D., attended the event in support of the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention against violence against women, which was organized in the Zvezda park in Ljubljana by Association SOS Help Line, Society for Nonviolent Communication, Legal Information Centre and the Municipality of Ljubljana. Minister Kopač Mrak also signed a symbolic support for the adoption and entry into force of the Convention and thereby expressed her NO to Violence against Women.

The Acting Director General of the Directorate for Family Ružica Boškić, M. Sc., Director General of the Directorate for disabled Dragica Bac and former Director General of the Directorate for Family Ana Vodičar, M. Sc., also signed a support of the Convention.

The minister praised the joint participation of NGOs and their long-standing efforts to prevent domestic violence. In order to combat violence against women we need to combine forces and establish a zero tolerance, said minister Kopač Mrak. The Ministry therefore co-finance a number of programs by non-governmental organizations, shelters, maternity homes, crisis centers, ... and pays them annually from 2 to 3 million EUR. Active role in detecting and preventing violence also have social work centers within which coordinators for the prevention of violence operate.
